5.0 out of 5 starsGreat for child with gross motor challenges - or any child
ByStacy Pon 25 August 2015
We bought this for my daughter who has developmental disabilities and is unable to stand unassisted. This is a great way to involve her in the kitchen and not worry about her losing her balance. Although our situation may be a bit unusual, I can see how it would be helpful for any small child as they often tend to fidget and move around while standing on chairs, and this just takes away the chance of any accidents in the kitchen. It is a bit pricey but the peace of mind is worth it.

Okay as a parent i know only too well that there are lots of products out there that seem like good ideas when you see them but when you actually hand over money and then show them to your child its game over. This i thought might be one of those products but i was willing to give it a go even with it being a bit pricey for what looked like maybe a wooden box. It arrived fine and was easy to assemble. I bought it for when my little boy had started walking as he was begging to get up high so he could see what i was doing when cooking/making meals. I am so glad i bought this it got his seal of approval straight away and he loved being in it!! Once he was properly walking and running he stopped wanting to go in it so much as he just wanted to run around burning off energy, during this time it made a good storage box, especially for hiding things from him that he had got a hold of. He is now 18 months old and has been asking to go back in it the last few weeks. He loves watching me cook and going in it to wash his hands at the kitchen sink (which he could stand and do for hours) My only negative is that it is heavy to move about however it does have handles for moving and fits nicely under the kitchen work top. Overall an excellent product and would recommend!!

I bought this for my 18 month old son and it is fantastic. As a lady who is in the kitchen alot and spends alot of time baking this allows my child to Join in.
Also when he doesn't want to sit in his booster sea I sand him in his box close to the table and he was away without feeling so trapped :) worth the money!
5.0 out of 5 starsWe love this!
ByNickon 9 January 2009

We bought this as a little extravagence - it is fair to say that at £100 it is not cheap. However, it was money extremely well spent, this is truly a lovely piece of kit.

The problem we faced was a very active 14 month old boy who liked being involved. In everything! He particularly loves helping me cook and this was becoming very impractical.

I considered getting a sling but then happened on a recommendation for the FunPod. My son took to it immediately. He stands happily in it for any length of time, he "cooks" with me on the work surface, he puts knives and forks into the rack. He loves being up at Daddy height. He also loves playing Peek-a-Boo in it. He doesn't at all look or feel hemmed in it. If anything, I think he regards it as his own little private space. It is always funny to find what he has stashed away in it when I take him out.

It is very well made and finished, sturdy and HEAVY. It does require a bit of "lugging around" but then if it was lighter it would not be solid.

We have a very small kitchen and it is not entirely practical to have this in there but it seems to be revolutionising our time in there. Archie has gone from being clingy and demanding to being happy as larry. This may be due to the novelty and time will tell if the novelty wears off but I suspect and hope that it will not - after all, the possibilities of what he can do once he is in his Pod are endless...

Finally, I had a small concern about the Pod and am happy to say that I received a very warm welcome when I called Little Helper (the manufacturer) who were friendly and courteous and resolved my question very well. Worth mentioning as this is not always the case...

Wow, this is so useful and the kids love it too. Watch out, though: my 20- month old can climb in unaided and get at stuff on the worktop. Nevertheless - highly recommended.

I had one of these years ago for my first child, not actually planning to have another so sold it. I then had a lovely accident and hey presto, baby no. 2 so I have bought another one knowing how great it was first time round. I can’t praise it enough – we use it every day and then some. Highly recommended!

Keeps my wee ones a bit happier than setting them on the floor, they love being up higher. We have, ah hem, slightly adjusted it to add a few inches to occassionally accommodate my 18 month old twins I'm sure this is NOT endorsed/recommended by the company but there is no way we could have two in the house!

ByMISS JOANNA E JAMESon 19 February 2014

When she was too young to understand to keep away from the oven, this worked well to keep her safe and entertained as she could watch me. Now we use it when she helps with cooking. I can see us using this for years. I know that we all stood on chairs as children, but I like to think that if this had been available our parents would have used them... Just in case. I have also purchased a stick on blackboard which I have stuck to one side so that it has a function when tucked away as well! Not great for a small kitchen though...

We knew of this product because our eldest granddaughter has had one for just over a year in her own home and has loved being in it from the beginning. We bought this one for when she and other grandchildren come to visit. Our second grandchild is only just big enough to use it, but she loves it too as she is able to stand up in it and be close to us. We are very pleased with the funpod as it is very sturdy and stable, and even a small toddler is secure in it.

After persuading my husband that we should splash out on a FunPod (he thought it was too expensive!) we have both agreed that we have definitely got our money's worth!
All 3 of us, in particular my very own little helper, all love meal times! It's so lovely to enjoy time as a family in the kitchen, baking and preparing meals with the added advantage that I am confident that my little one is safe while she is my mini sous chef!

Bought this for my 18m old neice for christmas as she likes to see what's going on in the kitchen and is getting too heavy to lift and still wangle the kettle etc - so far so good, she can see and it is keeping her out of mischief - not had long enough to test against other comments regarding water on here, but instructions do warn that it should be wiped down if wet.
5.0 out of 5 starsWe think it's a must
ByVillage Bookwormon 9 August 2015

Our little one has used this since before he could stand properly and it seemed to help him get his confidence. He can stand and watch us cook in safety but also likes to play at the sink or have a snack while stood in it. We think it's a must for anybody with a pre-toddler through to whatever age he outgrows the need for a stool to reach the sink/worktop.
5.0 out of 5 starsFab product!
ByRuthieGon 19 February 2013

- My 16 month old LOVES her funpod. She enjoys being up to the kitchen work top with us whatever we're doing and she also enjoys playing and sitting in the 'box'. She requests to go 'up... up.... up' which makes my life so much easier as she can be involved in my cooking/baking whilst being busy doing lots of messy play/exploring whilst i am near her as at 16 months standing her on a chair is very difficult/dangerous. FOor this reason it is well worth the money.
- The funpod is spacious and safe. My little one is tall for her age and is on the second setting to be at chest height with the kitchen worktop. Lots of growing room!
- Easy to move around on our laminate floor leaving no marks.

Only issue i've found (which i knew would happen( is that due to the safety feature of a large base on the funpod, when the funpod is against a cupboard where there is no bottom recess for the base to go under there is a space of around 7cm between the front of the fun pod and the worktop meaning lots of picking things up off the floor when my little one is up at the worktop and drops things. I try to get her up where there is a cupboard so the top of the funpod is flush wiht the worktop but we only have a small kitchen so sometimes she is round the end of our island for safety reasons when the hob is on so she can still see what i'm doing at a safe distance and i can talk/play with her.

Perfect around the kitchen for my little helper. She can stand in the height adjustable box and help to her hearts content (reminder, it is not the products responsibility to move sharp or breakable objects out of reach!).

Slides round a tiled floor like it is in wheels.

Also great for peek-a-boo!

This has honestly changed my life! I can now work in the kitchen and turn my back occasionally, safe in the knowledge by 17 month old is safe. He really likes it and asks to go into it so he can play in the sink. Even my (light) 4 year old loves it. I have recommended it to lots of people and they love it too!
5.0 out of 5 starsFunPod!

I have a very active and inquisitive 14 month old boy who likes being involved in everything. I found everytime I was in the kitchen doing anything - cooking, cleaning, tidying, he would always want to be in there and would want to be held so he could see everything that was going on and this was becoming impractical.

Looking at the recommendations for the FunPod, even though it is a bit pricey, I decided to order it and I believe it was money well spent. My son took to it immediately. He stands happily in it for any length of time, he will play with anything you pass him and will bang it against the worktops; he'll put things into the sink and onto the draining board and just loves being at the same height generally. He also really loves playing Peek-a-Boo in it. I have noticed that when we go into the kitchen now that he bangs on the side of it and lifts his arms up so that you can put him in it.

It is very well made, finished and sturdy. As my husband put it together, it looked like it didn't take all that much time at all and was easy to assemble. I would definitely recommend this product.

The item was ordered and delivered within 48 hours so was really impressed as I was given a 7day+ time lead on the item arriving.

We love our funpod, just wish I'd gotten it sooner. My son is 17 months and hangs in his pod for 15 mins, 2-3x/day. I cook us breakfast, lunch and dinner while my son hangs on the island happily while participating in meal prep. It's very safe and he doesn't try and climb out on the tallest setting.

Brilliant idea! Great way of "containing" my toddler in my small kitchen - means I know where he is and prevents him from being underfoot whilst I'm carrying hot items in the kitchen. Allows him to watch what we're doing without balancing unsteadily on chairs.

5.0 out of 5 starsFantastic Funpod
ByTheo's Mumon 8 November 2010

This is a fabulous piece of furniture. My husband wasn't keen but I could see our 16 month old in it, stamping his little feet in excitement at being in it. That is exactly what happened. He asks to go in as he loves being in there. He's done drawing whilst I've cooked, played with kitchen utensils, been kept safe and out of the way (and the dishwasher!) and it is THE best place for hiding and playing peek-a-boo. He loves being able to see what's going on in the kitchen and can now do so from a really safe vantage point - whilst still feeling that he's being involved.

I was concerned that it would be quite an imposition in the kitchen but it is a neat, compact piece of beautifully made furniture that really takes up very little space. It is brilliant and I really recommend it.
5.0 out of 5 starsWell worth the money, great for curious toddlers
Byfat lady singson 11 March 2009

I spend a lot of time in kitchen (don't all mums) cooking, baking, washing, faffing...My 18month-old loves to get up to my level to be part of the action and after a scary incident on a chair I bought this & haven't regretted it. Several times a day Mollie will pat her FunPod so I put her in it & she is so happy watching me and 'helping' or eating a snack or 'colouring' whilst able to keep an eye on Mummy.

Others have said it is heavy to move around, and maybe the makers have listened as I have a newer model than pictured and it has round feet that make it very easy to drag around our laminate floor. Also easy to clean & good solid feel.

Well worth the initial outlay - think how many expensive baby gadgets do you have that you never use? This won't be one of them.

Having read the reviews about it 'changing people's lives' I had been joking about how my life was due to change etc when it was on it's way but not really sure, especially as it is quite an investment. However it has been one of the best buys so far, my 16 month old loves it! It is such a simple idea and I'm really pleased we bit the bullet to spend 80-odd quid on it as I forsee it being used for several more years. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who has found cooking dinner with a grisly toddler attached to their leg a continuous challenge!

The funpod is great & has made cooking in the kitchen with a toddler more enjoyable & less stressful for me.
My toddler is no longer trying to pull at me all the time, or empty the cupboards.
He stands in it & plays happily & safely at the worktop.
He shows a lot of interest in different foods & helps with mixing, baking etc.
It is also great for water play at the sink.
I think toddlers just like to feel involved with what you're doing & the funpod really helps with this.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This FunPod Is Brilliant, and the whole family Love it.

My brother had a funpod for his daughter when she was 18month-old. She is now 3 1/2 and still uses it, So I thought we'd give it a go.

When in the kitchen my 15month old daughter wants to be up all the time and see whats going on, and help out. So this is brilliant for just that.
She goes in it no bother at all, and is at the same level of the worktop. She thinks its great beacuase she can help out and watch things get cooked/made etc.
It is very well made and finished, sturdy and its not too heavy. We have a wooden floor so it moves across the floor easily.

My friends have all seen it, and thinks its great.
But a few people think £100 is a lot of money, But Your child is safe ; is happy ; and you know where they are!
And it will be used for years.

5.0 out of 5 starsExpensive but worth it
ByThomas D.on 16 January 2010

Even after three days I know the money was well spent. A friend recommended the Funpod because her son is like my daughter (14 months), adventurous. I had no peace in the kitchen because my daughter would be clinging to my legs wanting to be picked up. That is not always convenient if you have to chop veggies etc.

When ignored she would then start pushing a chair to the worksurface and climb on it. After finding her with her hands in the toaster (cold) I thought I give the Funpod a go. And she loves it!

She is mostly next to me at the sink, where she watches me and plays. In the future she will probably want to help me, at the moment she is content just to see what's going on.

You have to consider where to put the Pod, as it blocks those drawers under the work surface (and that's good! as the top is almost level with the work surface), and obviously next to the hob is not a good idea, but we have two places where it can be, in front of a uncluttered stretch of worksurface and next to the sink, and carrying it is no problem.
Definitely a good investment, my back will thank me and I will hopefully lose that hunted look I had while cooking/baking/cleaning because she would be either wailing at my feet or trying to do herself some harm.
5.0 out of 5 starsExpensive but fantastic
ByN. Barrasson 21 October 2013

We were bought a fun pod by my parents-in-law after hearing good reports from others who had one. It has been absolutely fantastic. We received it when our daughter was around 1yr old and are still using now she is 4. She learned quite early on that she was able to climb in and out of the pod herself, using the lip of the shelf as a step and now also pushes it around the kitchen to get where she wants to be, allowing her to be more independent. We also found that it is possible to fit 2 toddlers in at once. We only have a small kitchen but have sacrificed a cupboard in order to make a space to store the funpod. Our daughter still absolutely loves it, and the adjustable height means she can still be safe, or if we raise the shelf she is able to reach into large mixing bowls etc. The funpod is also pretty attractive and easy to keep clean, apart from the shelf grooves on the inside which have a tendency to collect crumbs/flour etc.

Our dining chairs are the type that fold up and so are unsafe for a child to stand on. Had it not been for this I am not sure that we would have chosen to have a pod due to the size of our kitchen, however I am immensely glad that we did.

Just purchased this for our (almost) 2 year old for Christmas and the initial trials have been a great success. Our kitchen is mostly off limits to her because we have an always-on aga but now she can join us and play while we are in working in the kitchen. She loves being at counter height, being able to see everything, and we love her being there safely and not running around grabbing everything. We now have to remember to create an exclusion zone around her reaching hands (she can reach an amazingly long way!) but it means we can cook together and she can play in the sink too. Solidly built so feels very sturdy and safe. Could get in the way in a small kitchen, but luckily we have a little hidey hole it fits in when it's not in use (the feet stick out beyond the 'box' but at least this means it won't tip over). I also think it will hold it's value pretty well for selling on when we've finished with it. Oh, and it was really easy to put together too - took me 20 minutes on my own.

My daughter is 19 monoths old and into everything, especially in the kitchen where she wants to help! The funpod is a safe way for her to share and join in and I have the security that she is safe and secure. The funpod is good quality, easy to put together and easy to clean and very safe!
it does take up quite a bit of room - it's not really for a small kitchen and it possibly won't suit toddlers who love to climb and take big risks. My daughter is steady on her feet but small for her age and topples off things easily so loves to stand in this and help with the cooking and washing up. Obviously, you have to be aware of what is on your work surfaces and put knives etc out of reach.
It's not too heavy to lift and we've even taken it into the garden and the downstairs loo (for hand washing!). It's alot of money but i expect to use it until she's 4 or 5, plus they retain their value for re sale as they are so well made.
5.0 out of 5 starsWorth the price for a happy family!
BySimon Ballantyneon 19 August 2014

An expensive product, but very good quality. Sturdy. A little heavy, but it needs to have some weight to it to ensure the child is safe in it.
I really wanted my child (20 months old) to be part of what I was preparing on the kitchen work top. She always whinged when I was in the kitchen as I wasn't paying her attention and she was desperate to eat whatever I was preparing. So I started to stand her on a chair, but she was really unsafe on a chair and fell off (not a soft landing on our hard kitchen tiles).
I was hesitant as to whether this was going to be a waste of money, but so far so good, she loves being in there and even points to the pod when I'm in the kitchen as she wants to be part of preparation! So one happy toddler who is safe and learning at the same time = one happy Daddy & Mummy!

The funpod has changed our lives!!! Cooking is no longer stressful and my 17 month old is loving helping in the kitchen. Its very sturdy and perfect height for her to reach worktops and sink. We have an open plan kitchen area so this was purchased for safety as well as fun in the kitchen and I would recommend for anyone with an inquisitive toddler struggling to cook and do chores!! My little girl claps when we pull the funpod to the worktop and can't wait to get in!!. So far shes done playdough on the worktop helped peel veg, splashed at the sink and helped sort cuttlery in the draw, also great for games of boo and she happily sits in it with a book!! Happy mummy and even happier toddler bargain price and more than worth the spend!!!

If you have a toddler under 5, you HAVE to get this, it's fab. You will wonder how you ever did without it. My son loves his - only problem, I can't get him out! He loves to help me make lunch and dinner for daddy and is very proud of his achievements. He actually eats better too which is great. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to keep their little ones safe and entertained. Very good!

Hi, I was abit concerned on how my 14 month old would take to the funpod but was so sick of her tugging at my trousers wanting to see what I was doing in the kitchen i thought i had better give it a try. It has been brilliant, I can finally prepare a meal in the kitchen now. As long as i give her things to play with while I am cooking she is quite happy. If chopping carrots she plays with the carrots etc. Everytime we walk into the kitchen now she goes straight to it and bangs on the side, her way of telling me she wants to get in. It does get in the way as we don't have a massive kitchen but its worth it!

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat idea

The fundpod is everything I wanted it to be. My child sits beside me in the kitchen while I cook. He is curious and he always wanted to see what was going on up there, on the table. Now he can see and I can do my things, and he "helps" aaaall the time :) He now also eats in it while playing.
The only disadvantage would be the price, if you look at it as a bunch of wood. But the value it brings to the everyday life next to my kid, especially since I like to involve him in everything I do (even in the kitchen), makes it worth the money (unless you know a good carpenter :P )
5.0 out of 5 starsUsed every day
ByChris Son 26 August 2014

This is used daily in our house. It's used in the bathroom and kitchen.
My two year old uses it to stand at the sink while she/we brush her teeth. Keeps her in once place and makes washing so much easier. It's also used in the kitchen when she helps with the cooking (mixing and playing with dough).
The FunPod is well made, solid and sturdy, (a little bit on the heavy side - to be expected). But slides easily on the kitchen and bathroom (tiled) floors.
I can't think of any negative aspects of this product.

This is a brilliant product. My little girl loves helping in the kitchen but she is a little fidget so I was worried about just putting her on a chair. It still wouldn't be the right height. This is perfect. She loves it too and even plays hide and seek in it. She can now get involved with things she loves like baking and cooking. She uses it for painting at the counter and even uses it to 'wash' the dishes, though ralsitically I don't think that last one will last very long :-)

5.0 out of 5 starsGenius concept - and very popular with Kids
ByJ Ealeson 31 August 2013

This is such a simple concept - my nearly 2-year old loves being able to watch mummy (or daddy) cook - and generally seems to enjoy being "up high" in the kitchen - it's easier to boss people around when you can point at more things you want!

It's very study and solid, but light enough for my (heavily) pregnant wife to maneuver around the kitchen as required.

Easy to put together - it took us about 20 minutes to do one evening.

I bought the funpod for my 17 month daughter after realising how dull it was to be at toddler height in the kitchen. Its not that entertaining looking at rows of cupboards that you're not allowed in. Emily loves the funpod and enjoys joining in and helping to make meals. It's a far safer option to balancing your child on a chair and is study, well made and easy to clean. Brilliant buy.

We spend a long time wondering whether this item would be an overpriced waste of time but it's been fantastic. We have it about a month now and our 21 month old daughter LOVES it. She'll spend ages in it messing about in the sink or with colouring pencils and paper while I make dinner. It makes life so much easier if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Expensive but worth it!

.... and, thus, so do I. Not only can he stay for minutes and minutes there but also loves to hide in it. It is so simple that matches my white modern kitchen perfectly. By now, I have also found it very safe but my boy is only 16mo so he might be able to climb in the future (I hope not). Besides, amazon sent it to me (Spain) for free (I have Amazon Premium).

An expensive item but totally worth it. Allows children to be involved with everything that is going on, great for baking. Also keeps them from climbing on chairs etc to 'see.' Definitely worth the money and lots of people looking for them on the pre loved sites so it will be easy to sell on.

Bought as a present for my grandson to use. His mother does a lot of cooking and I have been told this is brilliant. It means she can give him his own spoon etc so he feels involved, whilst she gets on with the task in hand knowing he is safe and not under her feet.

I bought the funpod for my 18 month old son as he was very keen on climbing on a chair to reach the worksurface. We have a tiled floor so I was worried that he would fall off and hurt himself. I was a little concerned when I bought it that my son would not want to stay in it and would prefer to get a chair. My concerns were unfounded and he absolutely loves it. It's made a huge difference to me, I spend a lot of time cooking and it was a bit of a nightmare trying to cook with my little one around my ankles and climbing on chairs. He is quite happy to stand in his funpod and play with the vegetables/ do some crayoning/ help me make cakes/ play peekaboo. A wonderful product, it has dramatically reduced my stress levels!!!

4.0 out of 5 starsGreat product but a bit expensive

I bought this for my 2 year old daughter to try to keep her safe in the kitchen. Delivery and packaging was good, it was easy to assemble. We ordered the "Red" funpod which is a good colour. Our daughter never sits for long in her high chair and like to be walking and crawling around the kitchen, we've had this over a week and she's very happy stood in the funpod drawing or playing safely on the kitchen counter. The only negatives so far are the price and she sometimes can bang/knock her arms on the wooden panels when moving so maybe a little padding would have been welcome. A very good buy for busy toddlers.
4.0 out of 5 starsFun Pod....yes it's a box but it's worth it.
ByLisaon 4 June 2011

We were initially put off this because of the price - it is after all only a wooden (MDF style ) box. However we read the other reviews and decided to go for it as we were constantly trying to keep our son away from hot things. He had also worked out how to pull the safety catches off the cupboards too.

We must admit though that it has been well worth it as it does help to keep your little one safe and engaged while you deal with the cooking and cleaning. It has given us more time (due to less carrying and intervening) and less stress all round as you can play games with your child while waiting for the food to cook rather than trying to split your attention between cooking, cleaning, play pens or other safe areas.

As the pictures show, you assemble the wooden box with a moveable shelf and put it in your kitchen for your young toddler to stand in while you do what you need to do. The foot print isn't too large but do measure up before hand to make sure.
I would have given this 5 stars if it had been a little less expensive but then the delivery charge was not too bad too our area.

Our little boy (13 months) loves it as he can stand alone and play peekaboo and has learned some words for kitchen objects already as we include him in our activities. I have yet to use it with him for his own cooking but I look forward to getting plenty of use over the next few years as you can adjust the height as your child grows.

I would recommend the child wear shoes while they are in it, as the shelf can be a little slippy for them in socks or slippers. Perhaps the manufacturers might consider a non slip surface in their future versions.

Apart from that, all round a very good purchase for all the family and will be used for a good few years yet!

I have a particularly clingy son at the moment, so this is the perfect solution for when I need to be in the kitchen. He is quite happy in the pod, he can see me and be involved. As he is only just standing, this is a safe way of allowing him in the kitchen, he can't crawl around or fall off a step/stool. So far, good buy.

4.0 out of 5 starsSimple idea. Great product!!!!

When we decided to buy this for our 12 month old daughter we were a little sceptical but needed something in the kitchen that would keep her contained. She hated sitting in her high chair when not eating, so this seemed worth a go.
Well, both my husband and I were surprised by how well our little girl took to it. It gives her an opportunity to watch us cooking or cleaning while playing with something herself. She even gave the worktop a wipe with her little cloth.
The advantages of this product are numerous, she is learning about food and cooking and cleaning while keeping her away from dangerous areas in the kitchen, with over 46000 accidents involving children in the kitchen every year, why take the chance?
Why 4 stars and not 5? The one bolt that came with it was useless, when we tried to ring the Little Helper customer services on a weekday afternoon, we were forwarded to voicemail, which was full!!!! We did email though.
If you can afford to pay £100, do it, you wont regret it.
4.0 out of 5 starsFantastic but pricey

The funpod is fantastic. It's just brilliant to have a safe place to put my daughter where she can help out with the cooking and be at the right level to see what's going on. We got ours when my daughter was 14 months and she's now just over 2. She loves going in it, hiding in it and jumping up to "surprise" me. It's pretty easy to clean and it feels solid. However, I do still wince at the price. It's just a bit too expensive for what it is. I also wouldn't buy it unless you have a spacious kitchen as it does take up a lot of room.

This keeps her out of trouble in the kitchen. A bit low to the worktop but then she is short. She does like to see what is going on so does a good job.

Bywatsonamacon 21 July 2012

We bought that Little Helper so that our 1 year old son could be more involved in the kitchen while we were busy there.
It worked out really well as he can see what is going on, he can't fall out and he feels part of the action - something that frustrates him if he's excluded.
The one feature that this item misses is a way for the child to climb in themselves.
This wasn't an issue at first - but now that our son is 19 months, he could use a bit more independence.
Other than that, this is really well made, sturdy and good-looking.

I bought this on Amazon after seeing it at a friend's house - her daughter spent loads of time in it and my friend said it had given her so much freedom that I bought one myself. It's really easy to put together and really solid - if a little bit heavy, but I guess that's for stability. The only problem with the black is that it marks easily but it does look funky when clean and goes with my kitchen. That's the only thing I can really moan about....
4.0 out of 5 starsFantastic concept that both parents (grandparents) and child will love (though important to note safety advice before using)
ByA Scoton 16 December 2014

This is a fantastic idea and great product. My 15 month old son was always eager to see what was going on in the kitchen, but he's a little too heavy for me to carry and obviously it's not always safe to do so when preparing food. This allows him to see what's going on (though be sure to clear some space and make sure nothing dangerous is within arms reach). He loves it and I love introducing him to the kitchen environment in a fun way. I've been talking him through what I'm doing like a TV chef, which he seems to enjoy. The design perhaps could be improved with the addition of a more secure locking mechanism for the plate that your child stands on which is why I've not given it 5 stars, but on the whole we are delighted and can see we will get lots of use out of this product. My son's Gran and Grandpa (aka my parents) have even bought one for their house!

WARNING: Sleep deprived parents, please note the panel that your child stands on must lock in before your child stands in it. If it doesn't, you may need to pull it out and flip it around, so that the lip clearly stops it from sliding in and out. Someone else built the Kitchen Pod up for us as a gift, so I didn't see the instructions to see if this is clear in there. On one use our little boy managed to slide the panel out from underneath him and fell into the pod scraping the bag of his head - no serious injury and he was smiling again within seconds, however it was quite a fright for all of us and could have been worse - so please do take care when putting it together. It also helps to ensure the plate slot is facing the unit for added reassurance.

I chose this after worrying about the safety of my little one. We love to cook and play with the washing up water but I was worried he'd fall from the chair. This Funpod does the trick superbly. He is safely contained and I can even leave the room knowing that he will be in the same spot when I get back. Shame I can't vouch for the lack of mess :) It is solid and sturdy and even though my son is very tall for his age he will still get lots of use from it. I wish I had brought it earlier.
The only reason I have given it 4/5 stars is that I wish there was a way for him to let himself in and out rather than having to lift him into it. This is not great for anyone with heavy kids and back issues.

3.0 out of 5 starsSlightly disappointed
BySimon Bon 22 June 2014

I'd wanted to get one of these for a while after I saw one at a colleague's house. When our second child came along I thought it would be a good way of keeping our toddler entertained when the dinner was being cooked as she usually wants to be picked up then and it makes it hard to get anything done. With a new baby, that would be an even more tricky time of day!

It's been a reasonably successful purchase. Our toddler is only 19m at the moment and she's a bit small for actually 'helping' but the FunPod does contain her for a while and keeps her interest as she can see stuff and reach stuff (clearly you have to be mindful of knives and cooker controls!). What she most likes is to get up by the sink and splash. That's great but she, and the kitchen, and the FunPod, end up soaked!

Main main issues with this thing are the price and the build quality:

- There seem to be a range of models and we got one of the cheapest ones at around £90. It's really not worth that kind of money and I'm glad we didn't buy the dearer ones which only seem to be a different colour, not any more fancy in terms of features. It's the sort of thing Ikea would sell you for half that cost if they made one.

-It's made out of MDF which is about as cheap as you can get in terms of sheet timber. The screws don't bite wonderfully well when you build it and MDF is hopeless with water. It is well varnished so I'm not massively worried, but it would be a much better product in plywood.

-There is a ledge that the child stands on which can be moved up and down depending on their size. This is what I disliked most as the tolerances on the cutting of this part are really rough. It simply doesn't fill all of the available width which it is meant to slot into. At first I thought there might be some danger that the ledge could collapse but I wiggled it fully and decided that it was sufficiently well connected with it's slot that it was safe, but it feels needlessly shoddy. You can for example see daylight on one side if it is pushed hard to the other side. It should fully fill both slots left and right with no play. The MDF slots are also untreated so a bit worried that the water could make them swell out of shape

-It's simply not that attractive. The MDF is covered in a Maple effect skin but that looks fairly cheap and nasty by modern standards.

As I say, I believe it is safe, or I wouldn't let my daughter use it, but the combination of the sloppy machining on the ledge and the screws that don't bite well did disappoint. Reading about the firm that make them it sounds like a small business, and my guess is that they haven't really got their cost base under control as it's simply too expensive for what it is but I suspect that is not due to excessive profit, I think they are making them in an inefficient and costly way which forces up the sell price. Pure conjecture, but it's a fundamentally nice story on their literature.

To conclude, it's ok, safe enough and good enough, but really not one of our best purchases.
3.0 out of 5 starsAs it stands I have asked them to make me a more secure base and that cost me the grand total of a fiver and is beautiful cherry
ByAngelika parkeron 6 January 2015

Having purchased one for half price at another shop, I must say that £35 is about the right price for what is essentially a wooden box. I can't say I agree with all the "healthy eating" blurb and the rest of the pseudo psycho babble but it is handy when my grandson helps me baking or just watching.....once again a highly over priced so called "educational" bit of wood. It has its uses but for that price your local wood shop can cobble it together....I have asked and our local woodshop could've made me one in hardwood, not cheap ply for less than £40. As it stands I have asked them to make me a more secure base and that cost me the grand total of a fiver and is beautiful cherry wood :-)

ByALMEIDA, Adrianaon 15 September 2014

When I saw this I found it a wonderful idea, and, after receiving mine, I still do.

However, I think it has been poorly realised: probably because it is made of MDF, or due to the glues etc. used, it gave off a strong chemical smell, even after three weeks airing in the balcony; besides, in mine the screws and holes were mismatched and the thing couldn't be put together. I had to send it back and must now look for an alternative.

You have got to be kidding, right? The thing looks like an up-ended coffin, or something a kid would make in GCSE woodwork. Its sole purpose seems to be to stop your child from moving. If all you want your child to be able to do is stay still, you'd be better off spending £5 on a bag of quick setting concrete and save the rest for the therapy they'll need when they grow up!
